Jacksonville, Fla., May 2, 2005 -
Early detection is one of the surest ways to beat breast cancer, and self-exams are an important step in that process.
Buddy Check 12, a partnership between Baptist Health and First Coast News, promotes and educates women on the
importance of self-exams. By matching women with "buddies" and a system for remembering to do monthly exams,
Buddy Check 12 is saving lives.
Volunteer Jacksonville recently recognized Buddy Check 12 Spokesperson and First Coast News Anchor Jeannie
Blaylock at the 2005 Celebration of Service. The annual awards reception honors those who share their time and
talent to make our communities a better place to live. Blaylock and First Coast News were presented with the
Dose of Caring Group Award, reserved for an organization that has shown exceptional dedication to promoting health,
wellness and caring for others.
