$1 Million Gift Names the Drew Bradbury Center for Wolfson Children's Rehabilitation Services
Jacksonville, Florida, May 31, 2006 --
Baptist Health Foundation announced that a recent $1 million gift from the Bradbury Family Foundation would name the Drew Bradbury Center for Children's Rehabilitation Services at
Wolfson Children's Hospital, a 180-bed regional referral hospital serving children in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
Rehabilitation Services,
are provided in four outpatient clinics. The Drew Bradbury Center will serve as the primary site, moving to the Aetna Building across from Baptist Downtown into a newly built-out space with new state-of-the-art equipment in a family-centered therapy environment.
Wolfson's Rehabilitation Services is the leading provider of children's rehabilitation for the region, offering comprehensive, family-centered services to children of all ages who suffer with neurological or musculo-skeletal impairments due to injury, illness or congenital developmental conditions.
The goal, helping children reach their full potential in everyday life activities, is accomplished through a multi-disciplinary approach that includes occupational, physical and speech therapists who maintain close contact with other medical professionals on patients' medical teams.
Larry Freeman,
administrator of Wolfson Children's Hospital, states, "The Bradbury gift extends our ability to serve impaired children in an especially meaningful way. Robin and his family understand the challenge and pain associated with chronic illness and their gift symbolizes their compassion and desire to help these resilient children and their families."
Robin Bradbury, along with wife Sharyn and daughter Kyle, presented the generous bequest in honor of son Drew, who died of cystic fibrosis in 1994. Bradbury, a longtime friend and supporter of Wolfson Children's Hospital, is a trustee of Baptist Health Foundation and serves as chair of the board's Special Gifts Committee. He states, "Our family understands the hospital experience from a parental, sibling and patient point of view. In addition to providing outstanding care for the hospitalized child, the Drew Bradbury Center for Children's Rehabilitation Services will reflect our insights from the significant time Drew spent in the hospital and our desire to reduce the burden a child's hospital stay has on the family unit as a whole."
The Bradbury family intends the gift to inspire others, as well as provide a needed service for children.
