Emergency Medical Personnel to Simulate Disaster Scenarios
Mobile Simulation Lab Visits Baptist South August 14-18

Jacksonville, Florida, August 11, 2006 -- The staff of Life Flight, along with emergency medical services (EMS) personnel and other emergency care providers, will have the opportunity to participate in disaster, bioterrorism and other emergency care scenarios using SimMan® , SimBaby® and AirMan® . These advanced Human Patient Simulators will be coming to Jacksonville aboard the Emergency Medicine Learning and Resource Center's state-of-the-art Mobile Simulation Lab (SimLab). SimLab will be at Baptist Medical Center South, 14550 Old. St. Augustine Road, August 14-18. Education will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be led by Clinical Coordinator Karen Crowe. The Mobile Simulation Lab is a 45-foot motor coach complete with a full ambulance bay and emergency department area to bring unlimited real-life scenarios to emergency physicians, nurses, air ambulance flight crews and EMS personnel. This type of simulation training can provide individuals and teams with immediate feedback on their skills, whether they practice in a remote rural health setting or in Florida's more populated urban areas. Training is conducted using high-tech patient simulators. The lab is an important tool for advancing emergency training throughout the state of Florida. "I am excited that the Life Flight crew is participating with the EMLRC's sophisticated and innovative training tool, the Mobile Simulation Lab," says Brad Elias, MD, Life Flight's Medical Director -- Operations. "It will expose our crews to a variety of challenging critical care scenarios similar to those they experience on a daily basis and receive feedback so we can continue to provide quality medical care to our patients. I am also pleased to share this unique learning experience with our health care partners at Baptist and with the surrounding EMS community." Local emergency physicians, nurses, technicians, EMS personnel, emergency management administrators, and disaster preparedness and response professionals are invited to visit the SimLab at Baptist Medical Center South. More information about the SimLab is available at www.emlrc.org.
