Baptist Medical Center South Offers Diabetes Education Class on November 29
Jacksonville, Florida, November 8, 2006 -- According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 20.8 million children and adults in the United States -- or seven percent of the population -- who have diabetes. While an estimated 14.6 million have been diagnosed with diabetes, about 6.2 million people (nearly one-third) are completely unaware that they have the disease. This disease can have a devastating impact on the heart, the kidneys, and wound healing.
Baptist Medical Center South is committed to helping fight this disease within our community by educating the public on prevention and providing services to treat those who've been diagnosed. Please join us on Wednesday November 29, 2006, for an evening of education about diabetes.
Listen to experts in the field of the treatment of diabetes discuss diet, lifestyle changes, medications that treat diabetes and the importance of keeping your blood sugar within normal limits. We will also be performing free blood sugar checks and we will educational information available.
The agenda for the evening is noted below:
6:30 - 7 p.m. - Meet with a dietician and diabetes educators and get your blood sugar checked.
7 - 7:45 p.m. - Lecture on diabetes signs and symptoms, treatments and medications.
7:45 - 8:30 p.m. -Q & A, blood sugar checks, diet information, educational material.
