Multidisciplinary Neurosciences Clinic Opens at the Drew Bradbury Center as Part of Wolfson Rehab
Children with Neurological Conditions Can Now See Many Health Providers in One Setting
Jacksonville, Florida, June 27, 2007 -- Children with neurological conditions can now receive a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan at the multidisciplinary Neurosciences Clinic at the Drew Bradbury Center, a clinic of Wolfson Children's Rehabilitation (Wolfson Rehab). The clinics, which began in April, are held on the last Friday of each month.
Often when a child has a neurological problem, there are other associated problems, such as learning disabilities or other educational problems that physicians are not equipped to handle on their own. According to Hector James, MD, medical director of the Lucy Gooding Pediatric Neurosurgery Center and chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Wolfson Children's Hospital, "At the Neurosciences Clinic, all needs are addressed by a developmental pediatrician, pediatric neurosurgeon, physical therapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist and social services."
In one location, on the same day, the patient is seen by each discipline. "Afterwards, we meet and prioritize the situation and then plan for the best treatment for the patient," explains James, who says this is ideal for patients and their parents because it streamlines time and patient care and allows the health care professionals to consult together.
The Drew Bradbury Center is part of Wolfson Rehabilitation, located in the Aetna Building on Prudential Dr. For more information about the Neurosciences Clinic, call 904.633.0780.
