"Pink Links" Golf Initiative for Breast Cancer Survivors
TPC, TOUR Academy and Baptist Health Offer Golf Program for All Local Breast Cancer Survivors
Jacksonville, Florida, December 10, 2007 -- THE PLAYERS Championship, TOUR Academy TPC Sawgrass, and Baptist Health have teamed up to offer "Pink Links," part of the Link-Up-2-Golf program, to help breast cancer survivors get involved with the game of golf while socializing with other survivors.
The ultimate goal is to provide breast cancer survivors with an environment that promotes their healing process.
To be nominated and considered for "Pink Links," you must be a breast cancer survivor who is at least six months out of treatment. The program offers survivors the chance to learn about the game, to improve well-being through increased arm motion and walking, and to socialize with other survivors in the beautiful TPC Sawgrass surroundings.
The nomination form can be submitted by friends, co-workers, relatives or the breast cancer survivors themselves. The deadline for nominations is Friday, November 2, 2007, at 3 pm. Those chosen will be sent a registration form and medical release to be completed and returned. The names of those not selected for this session will be kept on file for future sessions.
Each "Pink Links" session is designed around three levels of instruction. Each level consists of four one-and-a-half-hour sessions, and is held at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse. The first level was held in November.
The schedule for the second and third sessions is as follows:
Level 2
Saturday, December 15
Saturday, December 22
Saturday, December 29
Saturday, January 5
Level 3
Saturday, January 19
Saturday, January 26
Saturday, February 2
Saturday, February 9
The level-two and level-three sessions are being offered at half the cost, $75 for each four-week session.
"THE PLAYERS Championship owes much of its success to the Jacksonville community, and we are proud to repay that debt of gratitude through programs like 'Pink Links,'" said Ron Cross, executive director of THE PLAYERS. "The inaugural 'Pink Links' class and those participants who follow will provide such an inspiration to women across the First Coast, as golf and wellness are combined in this unique setting. As we grow the national fan base for THE PLAYERS, we hope to further improve the charitable and economic impact to this community."
