Baptist Health Offers "The Happiest Baby on the Block" Classes at Destination Maternity
National Program Teaches How to Quickly Calm Crying, Fussy Infants

Jacksonville, Florida, July 29, 2009 — Parents can learn innovative new techniques for calming fussy, colicky babies during classes offered by Baptist Health at Destination Maternity, located in St. Johns Town Center.

"The Happiest Baby on the Block" is an innovative new approach developed by Dr. Harvey Karp, an assistant professor of pediatrics at UCLA School of Medicine. The classes are based on techniques he outlines in his book, "The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Baby Sleep Longer."

Half of all new babies cry and fuss more than two hours a day. The classes provide instruction in how to quickly calm infants by educators trained in Dr. Karp's techniques, which are based on the idea that colic can be "turned off" within minutes by triggering a calming reflex in the infant.

Classes will be offered at Destination Maternity on:

  • Friday, August 21, from noon to 2 p.m.
  • September 18, from 11:30 a.m. to1 p.m.
  • The cost of each class is $40 and includes a Parent Kit that provides a choice of instructional DVD or VHS tape as well as a soothing sounds CD. To register, call 202.3140.
