Baptist Health Earns Magnet Recognition
Baptist Health was notified by the
American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) that it has achieved recognition as a Magnet Health Care System, an international quality designation enjoyed by less than five percent of hospitals in the country. Magnet status is considered the "gold standard" for nursing and clinical care. Baptist Health is the only multi-hospital health system in Northeast Florida to earn Magnet status, and one of only 13 health systems nationwide.

In March 2008, Baptist Medical Center Downtown and Baptist Medical Center Nassau were named by
Florida Monthly magazine readers as being among their choices for Florida's top health care institutions.

HealthGrades 2008 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, which recognizes Baptist Downtown as being among the top five percent of all hospitals in the nation for clinical outcomes.

Baptist Medical Center was named among
U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals 2007," and among the top 50 in the country for digestive disorders, in the July 25, 2007, issue of the magazine. The 2007 list is comprised of 173 hospitals nationwide, out of 5,462 hospitals evaluated, and is broken down into 16 specialties.
The People's Choice
Local consumers in greater Jacksonville have named Baptist Health "Most Preferred Healthcare Provider" since 1990, according to a nationally syndicated consumer survey conducted by the National Research Corporation (NRC). Baptist Health is consistently given NRC's Consumer Choice Award as one of the top health systems in the nation, including its 2007/08 award.

In 2007,
ADVANCE for Nurses newsmagazine named Baptist Medical Center Downtown as one of the select "top hospitals" in the magazine's first Readers' Choice survey for the State of Florida. The hospital was honored for its retention efforts and professional development opportunities for RNs.
In 2007, the Stroke Centers at Baptist Medical Center Downtown and Baptist Medical Center South earned the Gold Seal of Approval for stroke care. The Joint Commission has awarded Baptist Downtown and Baptist South with Primary Stroke Center Certification following an on-site review. This certification is based on recommendations published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association.
In 2007, Child magazine named Wolfson Children's Hospital among its top three children's hospitals in Florida. The list of 40 highest-ranked children's hospitals throughout the nation appeared in the February 2007 issue of the national parenting magazine.
Baptist Medical Center Downtown was a recipient of the 2006 HealthGrades Excellence Award in Pulmonary Care and Stroke Care. HealthGrades, a leading national health care ratings company, also recognized Baptist Downtown as being among the top five percent of all hospitals in the U.S. for clinical outcomes with its 2007 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence.
Jacksonville Magazine named Baptist Health among its "25 Companies That Care" in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Baptist Medical Center Downtown has been named the "Best Hospital in Northeast Florida" in
Folio Weekly every year since its "Best of Jax" series began in 1991.
ComputerWorld presented
Roland Garcia with an award as a 2006 Premier 100 IT Leader.
In 2006, Marian Bender, RN, now retired Baptist Cancer Institute's breast care coordinator, was named a Healthcare Hero by the Jacksonville Business Journal, and a Hospital Hero by the Florida Hospital Association.
In 2006, Baptist Health placed second in the 2006 First Coast Games. Our swim team and golf team, both comprised of Baptist Health employees, finished first in their categories.
In 2005, the Mental Health Association of Northeast Florida presented Baptist Health President and CEO Hugh Greene with its "Community Leadership Award" in recognition of the organization's continued commitment to providing behavioral health to area residents.
In 2005, Cerner, the health care information technology company, presented its Leo Black Award for Innovation in Information Technology to Baptist Health President and CEO Hugh Greene in recognition of Baptist South's opening as a fully digital hospital.
In 2005, Baptist Medical Center Downtown was awarded with one of the first
Organ Donation Medals of Honor
for achieving outstanding rates for organ donation. Presented by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), it is given to those hospitals achieving an organ donation rate of 75 percent or higher during a 12-month period.
Florida Medical Business readers selected Baptist Medical Center South for the
"Golden Stethoscope Award"
for Best Use of Technology in the hospital or health system category.
The Joint Commission named Baptist Medical Center a 2003 winner of the seventh annual
Ernest A. Codman Award, which recognizes excellence in the use of outcomes measurement by health care organizations to achieve improvements in the quality and safety of health care.
The American Society of Clinical Oncology presented its "Community Research Award" to Baptist Cancer Institute in 2003 to recognize its outstanding contributions to and participation in clinical trials.
