Extraordinary health care for an extraordinary community

Emergency Care Around the Clock

Experience and responsiveness are the hallmarks of Baptist Nassau's Emergency Center. We're staffed 24 hours a day by emergency medicine physicians and nurses. During the busiest hours, we offer Fast-Track care to speed treatment for less serious, non-life-threatening problems. Most injuries and illnesses can be effectively treated here, but ambulance service is readily available. When a higher level of medical care is required immediately, Baptist Health's Life Flight air ambulance can speed patients to Jacksonville in minutes.

Diagnostic Services

Our laboratory, radiology and cardiopulmonary departments conduct hundreds of tests daily. Using state-of-the-art equipment, they help physicians diagnose illnesses and injuries, and follow up on rehabilitative progress. With our advanced electronic medical record system, test results are available online to the treatment team, whether they are at the hospital or at their offices. This filmless approach offers unprecedented service. Our laboratory's full range of capabilities is completed by a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suite and digital mammography.

Breast Health Services

Baptist Nassau offers digital mammography, a state-of-the-art tool in the fight against breast cancer. This advanced equipment provides more accurate images and faster service for our patients. It is more efficient than previous systems because there is no film to develop. Doctors view the images on computers and can review them simultaneously with members of the health care team. Special features of the equipment and our new imaging suite for women are designed to make the exam more comfortable, too. All images at Baptist Nassau are recorded electronically, which means patients will no longer have to carry bulky films from place to place. They can be sent electronically or on a compact CD. To schedule a screening mammogram, call 321.3636.

Cardiopulmonary/Sleep Laboratory

Concentrating its diagnostic expertise on the heart and lungs, Baptist Nassau's cardiopulmonary department specializes in EKG testing, performs echocardiography and stress testing, and conducts a variety of diagnostic pulmonary function tests. The department also manages a sleep laboratory to evaluate and assist patients with sleep disorders.

Clinical Laboratory

In the medical laboratory, diagnostic tests performed include blood chemistry, therapeutic drug monitoring, hematology, serology and urinalysis. Laboratory services are provided to Baptist Nassau patients and a wide array of healthcare providers including Home Health agencies and Occupational Health, Primary Care and local reference laboratories. The lab is fully accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks and the College of American Pathologists.

Hospitalist Program

Indicative of the commitment Baptist Medical Center Nassau has to quality patient care is its hospitalist program. As the name suggests, hospitalists are primary care physicians who practice in hospitals. Whether they admit vacationers and residents through the emergency center or see individuals under the care of a medical staff physician, the entire focus of a hospitalist is on hospitalized patients, staying current with conditions and caring for them on an immediate basis, if necessary. Hospitalists are a vital link to continuity of care, facilitating connections with in-house resources and post-acute providers. Additionally, because they are on duty for extended periods each day, they are able to communicate with family members who may have irregular schedules.

Inpatient Care

Attentive, personalized care is available at all times in our critical care, medical/surgical and labor and delivery units. In addition to nurses, support personnel and their own physicians, patients and families can consult our hospital chaplain, who focuses on the spiritual and emotional aspects of health and healing.

Obstetric Services

The obstetrics unit features patient suites designed to allow expectant mothers to go through the labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum process in a single room. These comfortably furnished, family-centered rooms feature high-tech equipment required for safe monitoring and delivery.

Rehabilitation Services

Recovering from serious illness or injury often requires learning new ways to do things, using new equipment and changing old habits. We offer a full range of rehabilitation services for people with heart and respiratory problems, sports injuries, musculoskeletal conditions and neurological problems. Wound care and pain management programs are also available.

Baptist Nassau's Rehabilitation Services Clinic evaluates and treats patients for a variety of special needs and is located at:

1886 South 14th Street Suite 5 (Fernandina Beach)

Orthopaedic rehabilitation assists athletes and nonathletes alike in recovering from musculoskeletal injuries and helps joint replacement patients adapt to their new devices. Individuals who have experienced stroke, Parkinson's disease or other neurological diseases benefit from the clinic's treatment intervention. Other clinical services focus on pain management and incontinence.
