Women's Resource Center Classes Guide Families through Childbirth
Courses are available to help families of all sizes

Pregnancy and childbirth; they're two of the most wonderful - and stressful - times for a family. But parents and children on the First Coast can turn to Baptist Health for help. We're not only committed to providing children and families with excellent healthcare; we're guiding people through the childbirth process by offering classes through the Women's Resource Center at Baptist Medical Center. Whether you're a parent-to-be, are concerned about how your children will adapt to your family's next wonderful addition or simply someone who needs a refresher course, the Women's Resource Center has a class to suit your needs. To register for classes or for information on fees and class schedules, call 904.202.2229. Classes are as follows:

  • Maternity Services Orientation (No charge) - Offered at Baptist Medical Center, this service provides information about prenatal health, exercise and fetal development and bonding; a tour of the hospital's maternity services; and more.
  • Childbirth Education Series (five evening sessions or two Saturday sessions) - Class topics include: anatomy/physiology, changes of late pregnancy, comfort measures, warning signs of pre-term labor or other complications, labor and birth (labor support and techniques taught throughout the series), hospital routines, Cesarean birth, anesthesia/analgesia, medical interventions and equipment, newborn care and postpartum recovery. (Offered at Baptist Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Primary Care Mandarin and Baptist Medical Center Nassau)
  • Basic Childbirth Education (three nights a week, five-week sessions) - Topics include labor, birth analgesia/anesthesia, C-section, basic newborn and postpartum care. (Offered at Baptist Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Primary Care Mandarin and Baptist Medical Center Nassau)
  • Refresher Childbirth Education (three nights a week, five-week sessions) - For couples who have attended classes for a previous pregnancy; a review of labor and birth, techniques, hospital routines and involvement of other children. (Offered at Baptist Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Primary Care Mandarin and Baptist Medical Center Nassau)
  • Breast-feeding (one session) - One session on preparing for breast-feeding and getting started in the hospital. (Offered at Baptist Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Primary Care Mandarin and Baptist Medical Center Nassau)
  • Sibling Class (one Saturday session) - A session for children ages 3-8 to prepare for a new baby at home. (Offered at Baptist Medical Center)
  • Infant Massage (two morning sessions) - These sessions teach massage techniques to comfort and bond with your new baby or infant. For new parents and caregivers and newborns and infants up to crawlers. (Offered at Baptist Medical Center)
  • Parenting Series (two evening sessions) - Parents should enroll during pregnancy to discuss newborn care, feeding, safety and parenting issues and infant development. (Offered at Baptist Medical Center and Baptist Medical Center Beaches).
  • CPR for Family and Friends (one session) - Each session lasts two-three hours and includes safety information and practice/check-off of performance of CPR techniques. (Offered at Baptist Medical Center and Baptist Medical Center Beaches)
