Buddy Check
"I could save my mom's life, or my mom could save mine."

As Buddy Check celebrates more than 15 years of saving lives, we also celebrate that
more than two million people in Jacksonville and beyond have requested Buddy Check information packets since the program began and
more than 285 women have found their own cancers. In addition, Buddy Check programs are in 39 cities across the United States, as well as in Japan and Germany. The Buddy Check program for Jacksonville is sponsored by Baptist Health and
First Coast News.

Being a buddy is as simple as 1-2-3:
- Get a buddy.
- Do your breast self-examination (BSE) on the 7th through 10th day of your menstrual cycle.
- Check with your buddy to remind her to perform her BSE and ask, "Did you do it."
If you find a lump, call your physician.
If you do not have a physician or to order more free packets, call
904.202.CARE (2273).
If you would like to share your experience, call Jeannie Blaylock at

As an additional service, Baptist Cancer Institute offers a free, computerized breast cancer risk assessment from the National Cancer Institute. The assessment, which takes only five minutes to complete over the phone, gives a woman an estimate of her chances of developing invasive breast cancer during the next five years and in her lifetime. A copy of the risk assessment will be mailed to you so that you may share your results with your healthcare provider.
To participate in the free risk assessment, call the Baptist Cancer Institute at
