A board-eligible neurological surgeon, Dr. Cannestra is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine. Cannestra completed his general surgery and neurosurgery residency at UCLA Medical Center and also completed fellowship training in minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal implants and spinal cord injury at the University of Miami School of Medicine, and Santa Monica Comprehensive Spine Center . He has traveled throughout Europe for intensive training in neurology and imaging, artificial disc replacement and dynamic implants.
Cannestra has expertise in spinal surgery, minimally invasive neurosurgery, complex spinal tumors, radiosurgery, neuroendoscopy, brain mapping, and cerebrovascular surgery procedures. He has contributed to four book chapters, 26 scientific articles and more than 65 abstracts for scientific presentation.
