Lung cancer is currently the most common cause of cancer death in the United States and throughout the world. The Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine joins with other specialty staff in a unified treatment program that is patient-centered and fully focused on the treatment of lung cancer. We are committed to providing compassionate and state-of-the-art care to our patients.
Components of our program include treatment specifically tailored to meet patient needs including:
- comprehensive case review
- diagnostic studies including CT scans, PET scans, breathing tests
- bronchoscopy
- bronchoscopic needle biopsy (minimally invasive technique)
- bronchoscopic placement of airway stents
- implantation of endobronchial radiation therapy
- drainage of pleural effusions
- implantation of catheters for pleural fluid drainage
- coordination with the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery to provide state-of-the-art surgery
- intensive care for critically ill patients
