Javier Garcia-Bengochea, MD, is a nationally renowned, board-certified neurological surgeon who has pioneered minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. In addition, he has invented a number of medical devices used in advanced procedures.

Garcia-Bengochea is a graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his general surgery and neurosurgery training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Garcia-Bengochea was a clinical fellow in neurology at The Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. In addition, he served on the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine, in the Department of Neurosurgery and The Emory Spine Center.

Garcia-Bengochea has designed several instruments and systems for conventional and minimally invasive spinal surgery. In addition, he has lectured nationally and internationally on topics related to spinal surgery, with particular emphasis in the field of minimally invasive spine surgery. He is on the clinical advisory board of Abbott Spine, Inc., a producer of spinal implants, and serves as a design consultant for their lumbar and cervical spine products.
