Weekend Extended Unit

Regular Schedule

This 9 month full unit of CPE runs from September to May. Group meetings are held on Sunday evenings from 4 pm - 9 pm. Fulfillment of clinical assignments is flexed throughout the week with patient visitation possible on weekdays, weekends, and early evenings.

The Weekend Extended Unit utilizes these facilities:

Program Components

The following weekly components are included:
  • Book Study (1 hour)
  • Didactic or Interdisciplinary Speaker (1 hour)
  • Interpersonal Relationship Group (1½ hours)
  • Verbatim Conference (1 hour)
Additional requirements include:
  • Patient Visitation (4 hours per week)
  • Individual Supervision (1 hour bi-weekly)
  • On-Call Duty
Times for these latter components can be negotiated between assigned CPE Supervisor, Senior Chaplains at aforementioned hospitals, and each student.

On-Call

An average of one weeknight on-call per week (4:30 pm - 8:30 am) and approximately one 24 hour weekend on-call every 5th or 6th weekend can be expected. The majority of on-call will be based simultaneously at both aforementioned hospitals. An average of one call per month will be required at Baptist Medical Center/Wolfson Children's Hospital campus.

Tuition

The cost of tuition is $ 500.00.

Application

Upcoming CPE dates and registration deadlines. All applications for CPE Classes should be turned in two months prior to beginning the interviews.

Nassau Extern: applications due by 02/28/10, classes begin May 4, 2010 and end October 26, 2010(One day classroom, 4 hours a week clinical and rotate on call) Classes are on Tuesdays. Class is 1 CPE unit.

Beaches/South Extern: applications due by 04/02/10, classes begin 08/22/10 and end in May 2011. Orientation will be on Saturday 08/21/10 and Sunday 08/22/10. The class meets for nine months on Sunday nights.

Downtown Summer Intense: applications are due by 04/01/10, classes start on Wednesday June 6, 2010 and end on August 13, 2010. The classes meet everyday M-F and there is one day on call per week and one 48 hour weekend on call during the unit. There are three days of Orientation at the beginning of the unit.

* All international residents must apply four months prior to applications being due. This is due to VISA travel.
